Mohawk Lounge

Morning After at the Mohawk, 9 x 12
SOLD

The above painting is from a not-so-well-taken phone shot of the Mohawk Lounge in Austin. Taken during South by Southwest a few weeks ago, the shot was almost totally in shadow in the late afternoon. To create a more pleasing light, I had to imagine the morning shadows. Below is the phone image I worked from.

Stephen, you did a great job with the light! And the lettering, nice!

Stephen, you gave the scene much more life than could be seen in the photo. So I have learnt something here: telegraph poles and lines and cars are allowed to stay!

Stephen, I am just amazed every time I receive your latest painting by email! You are obviously thriving and growing as an artist. How do you all manage to plein air paint so regularly?? Roxanne and I gave it a go....I've decided that the first time doesn't count. We've got plans to try again - you've inspired us!

Your painting is so much more lively than the photo--I guess that is why painters still paint things, because photos are just not as good for imparting the sun and the air all around the scene! You did a great job--complex, but in a good way.

You definitely improved the scene....I have really enjoyed your last several paintings. I haven't been attentive to blogs lately, but I'm back on track and thoroughly enjoy what you've done while I've been away!
