Toy Truck

Toy Truck, 6 x 8
SOLD

I drove by this beauty this afternoon in Caldwell [corrected — originally misnamed the town, Chandler] after attending my daughter's swim meet in College Station. There's plenty of natural beauty between Austin and Aggieland, but this red behemoth just screamed to be painted louder than anything else on the trip. The driver, Erich, and his wife, Jackie, were more than happy to accommodate me and came out a couple times to check on my progress. Painting en plein air has to be the best way in the world to meet and get to know people you would never have had the chance to, otherwise. And with today's weather around 70º, it couldn't have been more enjoyable.

This is definitely your niche! Remarkable work and kudos for the spontaneous stop to paint on your way back from College Station. You are a true plein air painter! And your are right about the scenery between Austin and Aggieland. I often think I should impose myself on my daughter for a visit, just to paint some of the countryside along the way.

Man, I love the way you are able to capture all that chrome with a couple of well placed strokes of perfectly matched color!

This is such a complex subject and beautifully painted. Really like the truck and building on opposing angles, there's a visual tug there that works. Very well done, as usual.

Erich, it was great talking to you and Jackie on Saturday, not to mention painting your truck. I will definitely stop in again and say hello. Thank you.

By the way, to others viewing this post, I misspoke before. It's Caldwell, not Chandler, Texas. So if you're ever driving through Caldwell along route 21, and see a big red Kenworth (big brand in 18-wheelers) parked next to a small nursery, stop in and stock up on all your planting needs. The nursery and landscaping business belongs to Erich's wife, Jackie.
