Lakeside Breeze

Lakeside Breeze, 12 x 9

My apologies for another tardy post, but I have another excuse to go with it. I've spent considerable time of late getting ready for an exhibit of Patricia Siegel's and my work, which we hung today at The Daily Grind coffee house in Round Rock. It's the first featured exhibit for either of us, so it's nice to have taken that step. As far as the picture above, it depicts a view from our paint out site last Wednesday, at Cindy Ridge's lake house on Lake Austin. As you can no doubt can tell, I had a lot of trouble with the mountain in the background. I tried to solve its issues back home afterward, the effort of which was further hampered by the fact that I took no reference photos to work from. There were some other elements I felt were working in the piece, however, and since it has been well over a week since my last post, I decided to go ahead and put it up for all to see. Please be gentle.

Stephen, good luck with the exhibition. and on the matter of the painting, i can only talk from personal experience when i have put a painting on the blog with all my doubts lingering in the back of my mind and then come to the realisation that it was not ready. then i pull it off the blog and rework it or throw it behind a huge pile of canvases that will never be shown and get on with the next. i love your honesty and clarity about what you would like to change.another useful learning experience:)r.

YOu have some great compositional things going on here. Those distant details can be so tricky, and your added references were good intuitions! The sun on the boathouse with the moving flag says it all for that morning!!! CONGRATS ON YOUR SHOW!!! Can't wait to see it!!!

just come across your blog and its seems you have made tremedous strides since you started blogging in May. However, I had an inward laugh when I read " As you can no doubt tell, I had a lot of trouble with the mountain in the the background" Small Hills I accept but mountains in Austin - Nope! Hope your exhibition goes well, I might pop along and see it in person.

I really like the gestalt of this painting — very serene. You've really "captured the moment" on canvas.

This is beautiful, Stephen. How long will you paintings be up? I will go by and see them on my next trip to Austin.
